According to reports, Manchester City is going to rekindle its interest in signing Pau Cubarsi, a product of the Barcelona academy.
Cubarsi, who is only 17 years old, reportedly piqued Pep Guardiola’s team’s attention last summer, according to the Spanish publication El Nacional. The Cityzens still retain hope of signing the central defender, even if they were unable to come to an agreement for the young player that time.
Cubarsi, who has only played in two senior games for the Catalan team, made his Copa del Rey debut on January 18 against Unionistas, winning 3-1. A few days later, on January 21, Barcelona defeated Real Betis 4-2 in La Liga, and he received his first start.
The young player might be enticed to transfer to Manchester City because the Cityzens are a strong contender for championship glory for the second straight year. Guardiola’s team won the FA Cup, the Premier League, and the UEFA Champions League to clinch the treble last season.
He would, however, have to compete for playing time at Manchester City with a number of elite players. Josko Gvardiol, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji, and John Stones can all play in central defence roles.
This season, Cubarsi has made nine appearances for Barcelona Atletico, however he has not yet scored.
Jorge Mendes says Barcelona would try to sign players from Atletico Madrid and Manchester City.
Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix, two prominent Portuguese players, have an agent named Jorge Mendes. Mendes has claimed that Barcelona wants to sign both players long-term this summer. In his 16 La Liga games this season, Cancelo, who is on loan from Manchester City, has two goals and one assist.
Felix, who spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Chelsea, has been declared surplus to requirements at Atletico Madrid. Felix has participated in 17 league games on his current loan with the Blaugrana, scoring four goals and dishing out three assists.
Mendes confirmed the desires of the Catalan team to the Portuguese newspaper Record (via Football Espana):
“Barcelona intends to permanently sign Felix and Cancelo. They intend to stay with them after this summer.
Regarding Felix, he continued,
He’s done fairly well thus far. People are so pleased with him that it is evident from what he has accomplished thus far. Joao Felix is without a doubt a fantastic player.
It’s thought that both teams will ask for a hefty price to let rid of their individual players. Due to a knee ailment, Cancelo hasn’t played since the new year. Felix is expected to play in his team’s Copa del Rey match against Athletic Club on January 24.
